I needed a gift for a bridal shower wishing well. I didn't want to go out and buy the usual spatula or vegetable peeler. I wanted something a little more special and interesting. But what?
Then, right there on my coffee table, I saw it! The coasters I love that were actually a DIY.
Coasters are a perfect wishing well bridal shower gift, I thought, and since it was a gift, I decided to make a matching tray to hold the coasters.
I was so excited about the idea I had and asked Lisa if she thought it was something you, her readers, would be interested in reading about. She said "yes" so here I am!
If you like working with washi tape half as much as I do, you will have a lot of fun creating this gift for the bride-to-be and her future hubby. It's fun, easy, and I really think makes a nice gift.

Although I made the tray to hold coasters, it could be used in other ways: For example, as a catch all for the remotes that get thrown all over the coffee table. (I will definitely be making a tray that matches our coasters for our remotes.)
Or maybe to serve wrapped snacks in.
The possibilities are endless! Well, maybe not endless ... but close.
Cut the washi tape about 1/2 inch longer than the width of the tile so you can fold the tape onto the underside of the tile. Continue until the whole tile is covered.
You can vary the designs of the washi tape to create the coaster.

How To Make A DIY Coaster Set Bridal Shower Gift:
Cut the washi tape about 1/2 inch longer than the width of the tile so you can fold the tape onto the underside of the tile. Continue until the whole tile is covered.
You can vary the designs of the washi tape to create the coaster.
You should need about seven pieces of washi tape to cover the full tile.
Cover the bottom of the tray with strips of washi tape to match the coasters.
Measure and cut the felt to cover the bottoms of the coasters and tray. Set it aside for now.
Cover the bottom of the tray with strips of washi tape to match the coasters.
The number of pieces of washi tape will vary based on the size of your tray.
Add some washi to the sides of the tray too.
Leave the coasters and tray on the cups to dry overnight.
Add some washi to the sides of the tray too.
You need to apply the polycrylic protective finish to the coasters and the tray, and you won't be able to hold them while you do, so I taped masking tape to the bottom of a plastic cup.
I stuck the coaster to it and it made it very easy to apply the finish.
The next day, turn the coasters and tray over and glue the felt to the bottoms using Mod Podge.
That's it!
This bridal shower gift was easy to make and I am pretty confident it won't be something the future Mr. and Mrs. needs to return because they received two of them!

Great idea to prop up the tiles while you were adding the Mod Podge. What is a "wishing well" gift"? I have never heard that term before? Thanks for sharing at Celebrate Your Story.
