My dad is the best person ever. When I originally wrote this post (yes, sometimes they get updated and reposted), he was just here, trying to fix our new dishwasher. See, we had a new house built and the dishwasher was installed but no electrician ever came to hook it up. So Pete and I looked at it, didn't know what we were doing, and called my dad. He came over, pulled apart the bottom with the back of a fork (because our tools are in a box we haven't unpacked yet) and tried to figure out if he could hot wire it.
Dads are the best ...
unless you have to go shopping for them. For a long time, we bought my dad clothes for every holiday. Then, it was sneakers. And before that, it was anything with a Jets or Mets logo on it. And the Christmas before last, Pete and I got my dad a combination: pajamas, a
Mets pen, a
Mets coozie, a couple shirts ... the only thing missing was sneakers, but that was his Father's Day gift.
So when you're trying to think of father of the bride and father of the groom gifts, it's difficult. But not for you because I actually did the difficult part and came up with ten gift ideas for dad. Hopefully that will make your gift giving simple.
Father Of The Bride & Groom Gift Ideas
We gave our dads
personalized cufflinks and I was really just so very happy with them. I had "Father Of The Bride" written on one of them and then a photo of me as a baby with my dad printed on the other cufflink. For Pete's dad, I had "Father Of The Groom" written on one side and a photo of Pete as a baby with his dad on the other side. Everyone loved them.

Maybe you don't want to buy your dad cufflinks with your baby picture on them. Or maybe you don't know if he'll ever use "Father Of The Bride" cufflinks again (unless you have a sister or two). Go with cufflinks then. You don't have to get plain silver ones, though. You could get his favorite sports team (or ones made from a piece of baseball), his favorite super hero, etc. There are a ton of choices out there now, so no matter what your dad is into, you can find something for him.

On one hand, a new tie sounds pretty boring. But stick with me. You're not gonna pick him up a run of the mill tie from the local department store. Instead, go to where the groomsmen rented their tuxedos and pick him up a tie to match. Your dad will probably wear his own suit so he won't completely match the groomsmen, but he'll match your wedding with a tie.
If you just want a less match-y tie,

I saw a pin on Pinterest once where the bride made a canvas print of the father daughter dance and printed lyrics on it. Oh it won my heart. I wanted to make it for my dad but I ended up going with a Christmas ornament instead. If you really like the frame idea, check out this
"Of All The Walks We've Taken, This One Is My Favorite" frame. It's able to be personalized too, which is great.

It's hot here in North Carolina. It's already 80 by the end of March and we've gone to the beach every March since we moved here. Warm weather means you drink a lot of water. Like way more than I did when we lived in New York (and I drank a ton there). When our families were coming for our wedding, we made our parents and my grandma
personalized water bottles. I was happy to see them using them all wedding weekend.

Alcohol And Accessories |
Does your dad have a favorite kind of beer? Maybe he's a wine drinker. Or perhaps he has a
Moscow Mule obsession. Whatever he likes, pick it up for him, plus whatever "accessories" he might need. If he's into gin and tonics, grab a bottle of tonic water and a nice bottle of gin. If he's into wine, a new
Father Of The Bride wine glass might be a fun addition.
Purchase at your local liquor or grocery store.
Pete's dad is a fan of cigars. He brings them down when he comes to visit us and him and Pete sit on our porch and smoke them together. It's a nice bonding moment for them. It might be a nice time for you and your dad too. Most cigar shops will really help you out if you don't exactly know what to buy. To make it a bit more special, you could also put together a
DIY humidor.
Purchase at your local cigar shop.

Sports Or Concert Tickets |
Does your dad have a favorite sports team? Like I mentioned above, my dad is a huge Mets and Jets fan. A few Christmases, we were able to get him Jets tickets. And as a family, we've been to more Mets games than I can count. If your dad likes a team, pick up a pair of tickets. Even if your dad has seen the team a million times, sporting events are always a good time -- and each game always ends up being a different game and different experience.

A
personalized travel bag is a great gift idea, especially if you're planning a destination wedding. See, dads have a habit of using something until it basically falls apart. And then they find a way to patch it back together. Again and again and again until it becomes thread and duct tape. The only time dads really upgrade is if it's a gift. So give your dad the gift of a brand new personalized travel bag. The next time you see it, it might be held together with Scotch tape and prayers, but you'll know dad will get as much use out of this as possible.

I know, I know,
gift cards sound like a cop out. But sometimes, you just have completely run out of ideas. You can still personalize it, though. Get a gift card to dad's favorite restaurant and write him a note for a daddy-daughter date (or a father-son date, if this is for the groom's dad). What a dad wants more than anything is to spend time with his kids, and this is the perfect way for him to do it.
